Testimonials about Hydronic Underfloor Cooling
- ‘’In summer, the slab with the cooling keeps the ground floor cool and at a max of 21 C. On the hottest days we run the fans to‘ circulate the cool air. That’s all that’s required.’’
- ‘’Getting the Hydronics and Heat Pump was one of the best decisions we made in undertaking the renovation. I haven’t been able to do a full calc yet but the energy efficiency gained from that investment mean’s that even though we have doubled the size of the house and moved from gas (heating and hot water) to electricity we have dramatically reduced our energy consumption. More than halved.’’

- ‘’Amazing I can heat the hot water in summer, cool or heat the concrete slab to different temperatures all for less than the cost of the old electric storage heater was using.’’
Hydrosol comment:
Underfloor hydronic area cooling works best in Southern Australian and inland regions where the air is dryer. Underfloor hydronic systems circulate cool water under the floor or chilled water through fan coil convectors. Explore this as an alternate to adding an air conditioning system.
Run your heat pump in reverse cycle for cooling. Use ceiling fans to improve the effect of hydronic underfloor cooling.
Fan coil convectors have their own fan to draw air through the coils circulating chilled water.
General Testimonials

”The Hydronic Heating and Heat Pump have been fantastic. The house gently warms on cold days to a steady 18 C to 19.5 C. The polished concrete slab is comfortable (and warm) to walk on and the warmth gently permeates through the house. On the very coldest days, in the morning, I’ve had to run the heating for about 2 hours. (That’s my work area.) We’re in T-shirts in the house.
In summer the slab with the cooling keeps the ground floor cool and at a max of 21 C. On the hottest days we run the fans to circulate the cool air. That’s all that’s required.
Upstairs we ran the aircon about 10 maybe 15 times to cool the bedroom. That was only needed in the evening/night time as we were heading to bed and only for 2 to 3 hours.
We do get excellent flow through from the sea breezes so upstairs is kept cool just by opening the windows and balcony door and maybe running the fan a little.

If I get the settings on the heat pump right then with the solar panels, we might nearly be energy neutral for 2021.”

”We engaged Chris Siddons to install our Stiebel Eltron heat pump, they were recommended to us by Stiebel as one of their installers. Our job was a difficult one with the pipes laid in the slab some 35 years ago. However, Chris completed the job in 3 days. it is a very complicated task to install a Stiebel heat pump. The heat pump and overall system works very well. Thanks Chris a job well done.”

”Well designed and well-built heat pumps for Australian conditions. These are performing really well in the Victorian winter conditions to provide hydronic slab heating. Excellent after sales support. Highly recommended.”

”We received prompt and comprehensive system design information and excellent follow up support with our project. There were some unique challenges with our installation and we got all the technical support we needed. Thanks.”

Heat Pump Hydronic Testimonials
”’Working with Chris Siddons (Hydrosol), we designed a hydronic heating solution based on two 5.5 kW heat pumps (COP 3.26) for a total heating capacity of 11 kW. This was a substantial reduction from the old 37.8 kW gas boiler, sized to heat the whole (draughty) house with estimated system losses of around 30%.”

”Heating and cooling accounts for around 40% of energy consumption at home. It is a big deal and has a significant impact on our comfort at home. And in Melbourne, heating is a bigger factor than cooling, with up to 5 times as much energy used to keep a home warm in winter, as is used to keep a home cool in summer.
Heat pumps produce hot water at 50 to 55 degrees, and some suppliers therefore look to upsize the wall mounted panels to provide the equivalent radiation. I think instead it requires better thermal efficiency in the room and / or accepting that the system may take longer to heat the room. With an automatic controller, I set the system to start heating at 6am – whereas with a gas system I may have delayed this to be 6:30 or 7am.
Thanks to Chris Siddons at Hydrosol…”

‘Chris and his team retrofitted radiator panels to our farm house on a suspended floor. The heat source was a 14kW Stiebel Eltron heat pump. A 700-litre buffer tank was fitted to make use of our 10kW ground mounted solar power array. The house is large and with our family living elsewhere now, we zone off the unused rooms to reduce power consumption. There were some complications with this project which Chris stayed with until it was sorted to our satisfaction. We were very happy with the end result, and have a lovely warm house, powered by our solar array with room zoning to conserve power.”

”Hydronic in-slab heating / cooling and hot water through a Siddons 4kW DC inverter heat pump. The Heat Pump is amazing. We had an old 3KW storage tank and replaced it with a hybrid system for the Extension to our 1928 Bungalow.
For the last 2 years we’ve been waking up to toasty toes as we walk on the polished concrete in winter or in summer the even temperature across the 100sqm. I can heat the hot water in summer, cool or heat the concrete slab to different temperatures all for less than the cost of the old electric storage heater was using.
Chris Siddons and his team were on the journey with us all the way from the concept to construction and installation, after sales has been amazing so much support. We’re about to create an even more hybrid system with the installation of 22 Evacuated Tubes to create a solar hybrid hot water system coupled to the heat pump to be able to use some more renewable energy. Chris was right there to help support and is interested in how we can become more sustainable. The Hydronic heating coupled to Nest thermostat and Big Ass ceiling fans just matched perfectly with the Siddons technology.”
